Social phobia hypnotherapy can help you become more social. I help people in my clinics become more confident when socialising. You may even get health fund rebates.
As a clinical psychotherapist and mental health professional (PACFA) we also will work on any psychological problems you might experience.
Sometimes there may be a physical cause to your shyness or social awkwardness. As a clinical naturopath (ANPA) I will also screen you for any of those problems.
It’s not if you can be helped but how and we work that out in the first session as well as beginning treatment.
What is social phobia?
It can manifest in many ways. You might be nervous about talking to other people because you’re afraid they’ll judge you negatively.
Perhaps you just don’t have enough confidence to say “Hello” to others in the room.
Maybe you’re ok in groups of certain sizes but not others.
Sometimes you’ve just not been taught what to say when you make an introduction to others.
You could even think that everyone else is watching you.
Why do I have a social phobia?
Did you have parents who had poor social skills or health or mental health problems and didn’t have the social skills to pass on to you?
Children can be mean at times so were you the one that was left out for being too poor, rich, tall, short or a whole host of assorted reasons?
Have you been labeled as nervous or timid so you’re simply living out that label?
Was there something that happened that damaged your confidence in social situations?
Social situations are scary
Perception is a matter of innate abilities, learning, experience and what and how you choose to see yourself in relation to the world.
For instance, six people watching a show in the theatre will give you six different accounts afterwards. They saw things from different angles, in different lights and chose to pay attention to different things on the stage.
Your mind can be trained under hypnosis to pay attention to whatever you need it to in a room and ignore what you don’t want to see.
Things are scary in your mind when you choose to create lenses that show you that point of view.
In hypnotherapy we can help you change that lens so you see positive, rewarding opportunities in meeting other people. Just like when the optician swaps out lenses to find the ones that are right for you.
In psychology it’s called ‘Glass half empty or glass half full’.
Teaching you to be social
Part of my job is also to teach you social skills so you’re equipped to go into social situations confidently.
It’s not rocket science. Just a series of things you do in the right order to make the social situation flow with ease.
As a hypnotherapist (AHA) I rehearse you in these skills and embed them deep in your unconscious mind so they become automatic.
You can actually learn these skills very fast – very fast indeed.
Hypnotherapy for social skills
Hypnosis is a very comfortable way to change your mind, beliefs, perceptions and behaviours.
Because your automatic behaviours are unconscious, not consciously initiated, speaking to the unconscious makes perfect sense as we are speaking to the boss.
Hypnotherapy also makes the whole process faster, saving you time and money.
