Are you experiencing issues around your sex, gender or sexuality identity?
Confused, unsure who or what you really are from day to day?
Are you too afraid to discuss this with your family or friends?
Looking for a seasoned experienced professional to help you sort out your situation?
As one of the major clinicians specialising in clinical services for people with sex dysphoria, gender dysphoria (gender identity disorder) and sexuality dysphoria in Australia, I have always campaigned for clear information to be available to the client group.
That means the client being clearly informed about what they may expect from clinical interviews and intervention performed on their behalf. Not all people who present to my office are suffering from some kind of dysphoria as some people celebrate their differences. So while I help people, I do not necessarily see them as pathologised.
On the initial visit to my clinic I take the time to make a full assessment and propose a way of working with the person so that they may be aware of what could be the best way forward for them.
As a sex therapist and gender therapist (member of Australian Society of Sex Educators, Researchers and Therapists NSW), I follow The World Professional Association for Transgender Health’s Standards of Care.
At no time is the client kept in the dark about what is expected of them or what they may expect from me as a sex and gender therapist. All treatment is carried out in an open, understandable, humanistic manner to the highest possible standard.
Trying to work out if you are hetro, gay, bi, trans, non gendered or dealing with intersex issues?
Also as someone who is active in international sex and/or gender politics I am sensitive to the many needs this diverse group of people can bring to my clinic, and these needs are handled on an individual basis.
People may come to me either with or without a doctor’s referral and all referrals to other doctors, endocrinologists, surgeons and specialists can be dealt with through my office. I only refer my clients to the very best that medicine can offer and as I say in my book Trans-X-U-All: The Naked Difference (XPP, 1997): “Pick the best and forget the rest”.
My second book on this topic, Sex, Gender & Sexuality: 21st Century Transformations (XPP, 1999) looks at many people who have diverse identities that do not fit the classical “norm” and how we artificially construct our sex, gender and sexuality identities, both in private and in public.
My third book on the subject, of which I am the co-editor, was published internationally in April 2003 by Jossey Bass, a division of John Wiley & Co. Finding the Real Me: True Tales of Sex & Gender Diversity is a collection of real-life stories by sex and gender diverse people, including transsexual, transgender, intersex, androgyne, multi-gendered and many more.
Would you like to be able to find your place in the world as yourself being strong and happy?
My fourth book on the subject, of which I am the co-editor, is Trans People in Love, published in 2008 by Routledge, a division of Taylor & Francis. This is an anthology of real-life stories by trans people and their experiences of being in love with a significant other or others.
I work with all sex and/or gender diverse people, including people who are from many differing groups including people who are intersex, transexed, transsexual, transgendered, androgynous, without sex and gender identity, cross- dressers and people with sex and gender culturally specific differences.
They are people who experience variations in physical presentation and social behaviour that is other than stereotypically male or female. Each group may have its own physical, psychological, social, legal and political issues that may not necessarily relate to any of the other groups.
For many years I have helped people who may be trying to discover or are battling with defining their sexuality or sexual orientation. For over 40 years I have been active in supporting all sex and/or gender and sexuality diverse people.
