You’re here because you need a psychotherapist.
I practice Ericksonian-based, solution-based, brief-focused, goal-oriented psychotherapy. I am a PACFA-registered mental health professional and a member of the PACFA College of Psychotherapists.
You may be having some deep-seated psychological and emotional problems that are interfering with the enjoyment of your life and want to resolve them.
Perhaps maybe counselling or other disciplines alone may have failed for you.
Many years ago, at the front of one of my books we put the phrase:
“Wherever you go, you go in your mind”
Few things in life could be truer, yet as we go about our daily lives, we forget that our minds need to be fed, maintained and allowed to grow for us to be healthy and happy.
If you don’t look after your mind or service its needs, like every other part of you, it becomes dysfunctional.
So, what is solution-focused therapy?
It means that at the beginning of therapy I help you set your clearly defined goals. This is so important because it allows you to define strategies to get there and know when you have achieved them.
You might not have had the skills or knowledge to reach those goals so my job is to help you work out how to do that.
I’m a nonjudgmental facilitator, like a street finder or map: I’m there to help you complete your journey.
In psychotherapy, we don’t sit around focusing on pain and regrets. That would not be constructive; in fact it would be counter-constructive.
You already know how you feel and remember the things you would probably on reflection rather not have done.
“Life is meant to be a good experience each day.”
Sure, everyday has its problems but if you are living in the problem state that’s all you will experience, day after day. You got stuck and need unsticking.
I was trained in Ericksonian therapy. He was a genius of a psychiatrist in the last century who had his feet firmly planted in no-nonsense common sense.
While I’ve trained in many schools of therapy over the decades, , I always come back to the practical solution-focused approach with clients.
We may even use hypno-psychotherapy to help accelerate your change. We are doing brief therapy after all.
Belief in your potential
Providing you are willing, you can also change fast.
You bring the willingness to change and I teach you how to do that. Nothing stays the same and hanging onto the past does not serve anyone.
At times life can be brutal and life’s trials and tribulations may have caused you to forget your own abilities.
One of the key tenets of the work we do together in psychotherapy is teaching you to realise how able and resourceful you can be and already are.
Therapy also needs to be fun and rewarding because you learn quickest when you are happy. The happier you become, the easier you learn – it’s basic learning theory.
