Life can be very difficult for you if you have narcissistic traits. Have problems with relationships, are avoided by your family and friends.
As a clinical psychotherapist (PACFA) and mental health professional I will help you to change your personality to be more empathic with other people.
As a clinical naturopath(ANPA) I also look at how your body is working and improvements that need to be made so you are able think and act better.
What is a narcissist?
It’s when you are overly focused on yourself, your needs, what you want, to the complete exclusion of other people’s needs.
You’re blind to the distress that other people suffer when you fail to see life from other people’s perspectives.
Partner’s feel and complain you are unconnected to them, don’t interact and often ignore them.
You overly dominate your attention on yourself, your needs and desires to the point that it damages others around you.
Why am I a narcissist?
For some people it is part of an attention deficiency disorder when you find others boring so don’t bother focusing on them.
You may have been raised with an over inflated sense of importance and told you are the center of the world and everyone else needs to fit in with you.
Perhaps you have a psychopathic trait where you are totally unaware of the need to pay attention to others.
Possibly you may have been born a privileged first child or only child where your parents did not bother to teach you the importance or need for social interaction.
How do I change?
There’s a need to learn the importance of social interactions, codes rules and guidelines for how you communicate with others.
These skills have to be learned and rehearsed regularly so you become proficient, just like when you learn to ride a bike or swim.
This needs a third person to help you, a therapist, because you have been unable to assess you own behaviours and you impact on the rest of the world.
You need to bring an open, genuine, willingness to change in therapy and not just attend to pay lip service to other’s complaints. An honest desire to be guided.
Will change take long?
When I work with you we work psychotherapeutically to change your thoughts, actions, behaviours and emotions.
Every time I see you – you will get homework which I expect you to complete. Therapy is not what about I do to you but what you learn and rehearse to do for yourself.
Everyone is different as you bring different histories, circumstances and problems to therapy so therapy will take different lengths of time.
What I require from you as a client is total commitment to change and to be prepared to do the work needed in therapy.
Narcissism Hypnotherapy Helps
Hypnosis helps the work go faster because we get to talk to the unconscious mind where our basic behavioral programs reside.
As a narcissist you are naturally defensive but hypnosis helps you open up and feel more comfortable and relaxed about change.
The shift to pay more attention to others that you need to make is big and hypnotherapy makes that possible by allowing to change one thing at a time.
Hypnosis is also a very pleasant experience in the hands of a professional.
