I remember the first time I sat behind the joystick of a light plane as I took off from Shoreham airport in the UK. I was terrified. I had to take two written tests before I got in the plan – weather patens and mapping.
I even had to do two preflight tests before I was even allowed to taxi onto the runway and a flight plane. pilots have to do this with every flight.
So, I learnt that flying is not like driving. There are many more checks and counter checks made for each flight.
One I learned how skilled one has to be come to become a piolet my nerves went away.
Why do I have flying phobia?
It comes down to three things only:
- You really don’t under airplanes and piolets
- You read or been told terrible things about flying
- You one had bumpy landing or you plane was caught in turbulence

What drives my flying phobia?
The same as any other phobia – fear. You get caught up in your own imagined disaster movie.
That fear is driven by your self-preservation drive to keep you safe. The problem is your mind is miscalculating the risks. You’ve blown up the risk of danger in your mind to suit your disaster movie.
Flying is technically the safest form of transport on the planet.
As a hypnotherapist my job is to help recalculate the risk and extinguish your disaster movie that is not actually serving you.
