Are you experiencing acute pain from a recent trauma or illness?
Has the pain become quite unmanageable?
Is it time to get expert professional hypnotherapy help to manage your pain?
Hypnosis has been used for thousands of years in pain management. The ancient Egyptians had healing temples where people went when they were unwell and forms of hypnosis were used to relieve symptoms. In Greek and Roman times people in pain would go to what were called Asclepian sleep temples.
In modern times hypnosis for pain relief is commonly used in hospital and hospice settings for relief of acute and chronic pain. It is an accepted form of treatment in both the medical and psychological disciplines.
Being trained as a medical hypnotist as well as clinical hypnotherapist, I often help people with pain relief in my clinic using hypnosis.
Pain is perceived in the brain. While neurological signals may be transmitted to and from the brain from other parts of the body, pain is a constructed perception created in the brain, not in the body.
Are you aware that hypnosis has been used in pain management for thousands of years?
Of course, for different people the perception of pain may be different. However, for everyone it is magnified by certain experiences such as stress, addiction, poor diet and difficult living situations.
What is interesting when we look at the perception of pain is that some people have learnt not to experience pain or to experience very little pain.
For instance, the monks of the Shaolin Monastery in China have trained themselves to experience very little pain during Kung Fu martial arts fighting. Tibetan monks are able to spend the night on the peak of mountains in the snow and not experience discomfort despite being dressed in nothing but a thin blanket. The great adventurer Wim Hof has trained himself to walk across the Arctic in nothing but his shorts and sit in a bath of iced water for two hours with no ill effects.
In using medical hypnosis, we are able to help you experience hypnotic anaesthesia and analgesia during surgery or medical procedures when you cannot have chemical anaesthetic due to medical conditions or allergies.
I have personally undergone dental and medical procedures comfortably without any painkillers during my training as a medical hypnotist.
Did you know that hypnosis is used in hospitals and clinics all over the world every day?
So, when we are using hypnosis during pain management we are helping you shut down certain parts of the brain that perceive pain and increase your level of comfort hormones including endorphins and serotonin, as well as enkephalins and dynorphins, all of which moderate pain and opioid receptors.
We are training your body to produce its own anaesthesia and analgesia.
When I work with you to help control your level of comfort, not only am I using hypnotherapy to help you be more comfortable there and then, but I am also teaching you how to do that yourself so you may produce better states of physical comfort at home.
The beauty of this is that you can learn to do this wherever you are throughout the day which will help you have more mobility and a better quality of sleep, dramatically reducing your stress levels.
You will be more comfortable and able to enjoy your relationships with other people in your life. This of course reduces your level of depression and anxiety that you may have been experiencing, helping you have better quality of life.
