Many males suffer from erectile dysfunction (ED) and are unable to get or maintain an erection. This can happen at any age after puberty. If the problem has always existed and the male has never been able to gain an erection, it is referred to as primary erectile dysfunction. If the male has had good erectile function and then lost that ability, it is known as secondary erectile dysfunction.
Both forms of ED can be the result of many causes including vascular failure, hormonal insufficiency and in many cases psychosomatically (effects of the mind on the body) induced ED. In cases where the cause is clearly psychosomatic, hypnotherapy can help remedy the situation.
Males can lose confidence in their sexual abilities for many reasons; maybe someone once made a derogatory comment about their sexual performance and they suffered damage to their ego (sense of self). Certain religious or strict beliefs may have philosophies that prohibit free, healthy association with sex and the sex acts, so the mind is conflicted about being involved with sex and enjoying good erections.
So sexual health is not just about your physical body, it is also about attitude of mind towards your sexual engagement. If you have a damaged sense of self as a male, it may stop you from getting an erection and you may not even be aware that is happening. You may have forgotten some of the origins of those mental conflicts. Those conflicts may be buried deep in your unconscious mind.
Hypnotherapy is able to help you access deep parts of your unconscious mind to find hidden conflicting programs. Hypnotherapists are also trained to help you resolves those conflicts, both at an unconscious and at a conscious level so that you are able to have a better attitude to sex and gaining an erection.
Also many males are just not confident around their sexual ability and are unsure about their sexual knowledge and this can lead to erectile dysfunction at any time during the process of the sex act. Sex education at most schools is somewhere between ineffective and inadequate and parents often do not teach children about sex when they are growing up. This can leave people very confused and nervous about what to do when being involved in sex.
Hypnotherapy can help raise a male’s sense of sexual self-image and strengthen their confidence in their ability as a sexual male to perform during sex. Because hypnosis reaches deep into the unconscious mind it is able to work very quickly and bypasses many negative belief that reside in the conscious mind. Those suggestions are able to change your self-image very quickly, which helps give you a better erectile function in cases where erectile dysfunction is due to psychosomatic origins.
If you choose a hypnotherapist to help you overcome psychosomatic ED, choose one who is also trained in sex therapy. This means they are able to see you, the client, from a more holistic perspective and can help you address other issues that you may face in trying to have better sex life.
