Hypnotherapy is constantly used in the clinical setting to help people overcome unwanted habits. These habits may include unwanted nail biting, hair pulling (trichotillomania), picking, scratching, head nodding, twitching, teeth grinding (Bruxism), distortions of the body (torticollis), swearing (Tourette Syndrome aka Tourette’s), offensive behaviours and negative comments that may offend other people.
You may even have been aware that you are doing those things but seemed unable to stop yourself. The habit may have been present for many years or in some cases lifelong and you have simply laboured along with the belief that it could not be changed.
You may even have been given medications to help you cope with the situation that might even have had unwanted side effects.
Habits are pre-programmed behaviours. Maybe you developed the habit as a child or in reaction to certain situation. The habit itself may even at the beginning served a purpose but as time passed you kept doing the same behaviour when it no longer served you.
The good news is that since you were programmed to do that habit, you can also be deprogrammed through hypnosis to stop doing that habit or to do something else instead.
So, if the habit is a behaviour, it can be reprogrammed with hypnotherapy.
Let me tell you a true story.
All of my life I was right-handed. I had never written, used the mouse on the computer or opened doors with my left hand. In my 50s, I broke my right wrist twice in accidents. The first time I suffered, struggling for months with a plaster cast on my arm. The second time it happened, however, I used hypnosis to reprogram my brain to use my left hand. Within days I was ambidextrous, still am to this day and am able to do most things with my left hand as well as my right.
I rewired my brain.
We can also see how this is possible with people who have had a stroke and lose mobility in one side of their body. With rehabilitation, they are able to rewire their brain to bypass the damaged part so they can operate the disabled part of their body with other parts of their brain.
The beauty of hypnotherapy is that it allows us to reprogram the parts of your brain faster because hypnosis gives us access to the unconscious mind where your behavioural programs are stored.
Not only are we able to suggest to your unconscious mind a change of behaviour but are also able to retrain your automatic actions and reactions, fast.
It does not really matter what the habit is that you wish to no longer have, as the process we use hypnotically can be used to rid people of a whole host of unwanted behaviours.
This will relieve you of the stress and upset you have experienced in performing the habit and help you have new behaviours that will actually serve you to make your life more comfortable.
